Ryszard, a retired foreign language teacher, sets out on the final journey of his life. He chooses Kazakhstan as his destination—the place where, for ten years, he taught the native language to the descendants of Polish exiles. Upon arriving in the village of Pervomayka, located in the heart of the steppe, he learns that a delegation from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is due to visit soon. There is no teacher in the village, so Ryszard steps in to prepare a welcoming artistic program with the students for the visiting officials.
